Dance is the breath made visible

The documentary Breath made visible on the dancer and choreographer Anna Halprin reveals her love of dancing in the natural world.

"The birds dance and the clouds dance. Everything is in motion all of the time. Life is in motion. Even every day movement can take on the awareness of a dance."

"The moment you start working in nature, there is that opportunity to begin to investigate the nature of your body."

She invites us to follow her in her uncompromising freedom and expression, and hails us to move with spirit.

"My grandfather would dance when he prayed. He looked like my image of what God is supposed to look like. I thought God was a dancer."

"You don't just dance for yourself. You dance for the good of others. You dance to make connections with nature. You dance to call up the spirits."

"People always used a form of dance to make sense of the mystery of life. (...) And they don't worry about how they look when they do it, it's how they feel."
