Where is Trisha Brown?

I was hoping to see a performance by the Trisha Brown company this fall but it appears to be impossible. Unless, of course, I were to go to New York or Lyon this month. However appealing that may sound, it's not part of the plan.
The Whitney museum on East 75th Street in New York has invited the company to take part in the exhibition called "Off the wall" from the 30th September until the 3rd October. Seven of Brown's earlier works from the 1970s will be performed: Walking on the wall, Man walking down the side of the building, Falling Duet I, Leaning Duets I and II, Spanish Dance, Floor of the Forest.
The Contemporary Art Museum of Lyon in collaboration with the Dance Biennale of Lyon will also be focusing on Trisha Brown's early works, which will be performed from 10th to the 15th September. In addition to these, the museum is organising an exhibition of Trisha Brown's visual art work (drawings, displays, videos) from the 11th September to the 31st December. Here are a few of her drawings. Photos by Kelly & Masso Studio.

Geolocation maps by Eric Fischer - Can you recognize these cities?

These maps are fantastic!!
Eric Fischer overlays geolocation data from photos uploaded to Flickr and Picassa and places it onto maps. All this to find out who takes photos of a city - locals or tourists - and of which parts.
Blue - photos taken by locals
Red - photos taken by tourists
Yellow - might be either
Have you recognized which cities I have posted? It's too easy, no?
The first is Paris. The second is San Francisco. The third is London. The fourth is New York. Fischer has now got 99 of these maps on his link. Go find your city!

Wayne McGregor and his Random Dance - 'the technology of the dancing body'

I can't quite describe how I reacted when I first had the joy of seeing one of McGregor's choreographies a few years ago at the Opéra Garnier in Paris. Sensational! The way the dancers moved was so different to anything I had seen before. McGregor says he tries to create fluid movements to forget about the bones in the body.
The speed at which the dancers execute the moves is extraordinary.
His collaborations with architects and artists such as John Pawson for Chroma and Julian Opie for Infra are unforgettable.
There is so much more to say about the use of technology, the articulation of the bodies, the set design, the music ... you will just have to see for yourself.www.randomdance.org
If you don't know of him and have never seen any of his choreographies, rush, rush to buy a ticket for his new choreography called 'FAR', which will be performed at Sadler's Wells in London on 17th, 18th and 19th November. www.sadlerswells.com
Another choreography called 'L'Anatomie de la Sensation' will be performed at the Opéra Bastille in Paris from the 29th June to the 15th July 2011. www.operadeparis.fr
You could also have a sneak preview of his work by watching the documentary called 'La danse' by Ferderick Wiseman.

What an enchanting installation! These doilies make me want to be a doily spider. What a gifted spider I would be!
I really want to learn how to do crochet. I did try once last year but went back to knitting instead.

Wolfgang Tillmans : Serpentine Gallery in London

photos by Wolfgang Tillmans
It's this one room (see photos above) of the exhibition that I adored. Tillmans explores abstraction and experiments a different technique, which does remind me a bit of Gerhard Richter's technique. It's simply beautiful!
I love the movement and agitation one observes in these photos. It resonates. These are surely going to inspire me for my next collection.

If you have the chance of visiting Uganda - one of the most fertile countries in Africa - don't forget your Bradt travel guide. I was extremely happy to have mine throughout the months I was out there.
